Power Rangers Rebirth Part 1 - Chapter 1
It was late in Reefside, or possibly early depending on what you considered 3AM. Street lights gave a constant glow into the dim room, the occasional car headlight brightening it up slightly. The room was still and quiet, except the occasional movement and murmurs from under the covers of the bed. Tommy lay, tossing and turning, as if having a nightmare, his thoughts drifted to the day Kat passed away. Suddenly he woke, his eyes wide, his heart racing. He took a few deep breaths before realising that he could hear a noise. A familiar noise. One he hadn’t heard in a long time. It came from his chest of drawers. He slowly got up, and wiped his forehead. He stepped slowly over to the drawers before opening one of them, he rummaged around for a moment before finding the source of the noise. The original communicator. The one that Billy had created, and passed out to the other members of the original power rangers. He stared in disbelief for a moment, unsure as to why he even still had it. He put that thought out of his mind, and answered the call. For a moment, nothing. Nothing but more silence. He was about to put it down when it came to life.
“Tommy. There is danger arising. You are needed again.” The voice said.
Tommy again stared in disbelief, who could be calling him, wasn’t he the oldest ranger, shouldn’t he be calling the rest? And what was the danger that was arising? These thoughts ran through his head until he noticed his room door open. In the doorway stood a small child, rubbing his eyes and yawning.
“Daddy what was that noise? Who were you speaking to? Was it mommy?” The young child asked.
“No Jason. It wasn’t mommy.” Tommy said. If the world was indeed in danger again, Tommy had to know about it. But he couldn’t leave his son. His mother had only passed away little over a year ago, and Tommy wasn’t about to disappear as well. “I have to go see someone though. But I won’t be long.” He kneeled down as his son came closer to him. “In fact, if you go back to sleep, I promise I’ll be back before you wake up.” He said with a smile. Jason hugged his father, “Promise?” He asked. “I promise.” Tommy replied.
Adam had just locked up the Dojo. He looked around, and reminisced about his early years in Angel Grove. His days as a power ranger. In fact it wasn’t too long ago that he had been asked to help out some new rangers. But his Ranger life was behind him now. His future lay in his Dojo, as a Sensei. He began practicing, he normally stayed for an hour or two after classes, to practice on his own, and to tidy up. Today though, he felt exhausted quickly, more drained than tired, as if he had gave up. He sat in the middle of the Dojo before heading to his office. Hidden away in a cupboard sat his old morphers, and communicator. He gently ran his hands over each of them, and breathed deeply, almost as if he was breathing in the excitement of the past. He shut the cupboard and went to the desk and looked blankly at the paperwork. This was not his best day. Suddenly he heard a noise from the cupboard, his eyes rolled over towards the cupboard then closed. Surely it couldn’t be, not after all these years. He opened his eyes again, and cautiously moved towards the cupboard before opening it. He stared in disbelief, his communicator was active. He picked it up quickly, “Hello? Who is this?”
“Adam, There is a new danger arising. Your help is needed.”
“What threat? Who is this?” Adam asked. But he didn’t receive a reply, his communicator was again silent, as it had been all these years. Adam stood up, with the communicator in hand. He quickly grabbed his bag, lying against the office wall, and packed the morphers into it. Wherever he was about to go, he wanted to be prepared. He pressed a button on the communicator and disappeared in a brilliant bolt of light.
Adam arrived in a dark room, he couldn‘t see anything. He put his hand out in front of him and watched as it faded into darkness. Truly light was not the strong point of this room. Suddenly another bolt of light entered the room, as quickly as the light appeared, it faded. Confused and unsure, Adam spoke out. “Hello? Who’s there? Where am I?” A hand landed on his shoulder, and Adam spun around, facing the owner of the hand. “Adam?” A familiar voice said. Adam squinted in the dark, and began to recognise the owner of the hand. “Tommy? Tommy!” Adam pulled Tommy close and hugged him. Slowly the room began to lighten. Towards one of the walls, an old man sat on a chair, a blue robe covered him from the neck down. “Who are you?” Tommy asked, “Yea, why are we here? Said Adam.
“All in good time.” The old man said, He began to move, getting up from his seat. “I have been watching you all for quite some time now, and I have been watching the evils of this universe also.” He waved his hand, and a transparent console appeared in front of him. Pressing several buttons he then turned to Adam. “You won’t be needing your bag, those won’t do you any good here, not anymore.” He pressed one more button, and the entire room lit up. No not a room, more like almost a hanger in size, possibly bigger the former rangers thought. “Where are we?” Tommy asked.
“You are quite safe, though the exact location hardly matters just now. You are both former Power Rangers. And you are all the strongest to have used that power. But now,” He pressed another button and a screen appeared. On it a small group of almost Ninja like quality walked quickly and quietly through a military base.
“That’s the threat?” Adam asked. “I’m pretty sure the current rangers could deal with them, what are they? Like putties or Tengas or something?”
“Oh, no, much more than that.” He waved his hand over the screen and it zoomed in on the Ninjas. Each were dressed in almost the same clothing, with one difference between them all. A small symbol on their shoulders. “What is that?” Tommy asked.
“Those, are the horsemen of the apocalypse. The symbols on their shoulders represent Death, pestilence, war and famine.”
“I thought that was just a myth.” Adam said.
“So did everyone else.” The old man replied. “The current rangers can not hope to even hold these forces at bay, much less defeat them. But you, you have the power and experience to stop them from destroying everything you know.”
Tommy stepped forward. “I can’t do it. I have responsibilities, I have a son.”
The old man glanced at Tommy, “Then you must find a suitable replacement. But do not dwell on the matter long. Time is not something that we have in good supply.”
Eddie sat bolt upright in his bed, he put his hand to his face and cleared away the imagined cold sweat. Over a month now these nightmares have been going on. This one was the most vivid, the most real. He sat for a moment before lying back down. He couldn't go to sleep, not now. He looked over to his bedside table, and looked at the pictures on it. His wife and child. He closed his eyes, hoping that when he opened them, they would be standing there. Opening them again, he came to the realisation again, that they couldn't ever be there again. A tear rolled from his eye down his face. He wiped it off before getting up for something to drink. Opening the fridge he looked inside and stared at the cans of beer that lined the back of the shelves. He closed his eyes and sighed. He had gotten tired of dinking. He had been tired for a very long time. He shut the fridge door, and went back to his room. There he began to get dressed, some fresh air would do him some good, and the walk would help take his mind off his past. The drink had stopped doing that for so long now it was unbearable. He went outside and began walking down the dimly lit street. It was late, there were only a few people on the street at this time, mostly drunk kids, running around, shouting at the top of their voices. If Eddie was the man he used to be he would’ve put them in their place, now… he simply couldn’t care less. He rounded the corner to see a woman pushed to the floor, and a young man run off a purse in his clutches towards Eddie. For a moment Eddie thought about letting him pass, the thought done nothing for Eddies own actions however, just as the young man was passing him, Eddie thrust out his arm, level with the mans throat. The man spun backwards and landed with a thud, gasping for breath. Eddie plucked the purse from the man’s hands and kept walking, dropping it in front of the now sobbing woman as he passed her.
