Hey guys, I was checking out some of the new Bandai figures the other day and it got me looking at my DBZ collection. With plans for the movie coming we're bound to see a resurgence of merchandise.

Does anyone know the status of the Jakks Pacific toys? I saw a new Sayin Saga line last year, but are they still producing anything?

Far as I know, Bandai's the only company making DBZ merch. And, from what I can tell, Toys*R*Us are the only ones carrying it. They appear to be repackaged Gashapon figures, but the 4.5" figs are pretty cool. I picked up Mystic Gohan and SSJ3 Goku, but they also make Super Buu, SS Gotenks, Majin Vegita, and Vegito. Then they have that crappy Ultimate Spark figure line. Crappy molds, crappy paint apps, and way too pricey ($12 for 2 2" figures, with the aforementioned problems). The 4.5" figs are only $8 a piece. Not too bad, since they're bigger, better molded, better detailed, and better painted.

I liked Jakks 12" figure line (Well, I liked the Bojack SSJ Trunks figure I got, anyway). Other than that, I wasn't that impressed with them. Of course, Irwin's figures sucked, too. BoA's repackaged BoJ figures were the best figures we ever got in the states. For all it's problems with PR toys, I hope BoA does any future DBZ lines we may get (should they renew the lines with the DB movie, or we get more movies). I'd like to see those early figures re-released. They're still awesome by today's standards.

As for a DB movie line, I hope BoA stays as far from it as it can get. The people that handled the Spider-man movie figures, or the Marvel Legends lines would be good, I think. We need a company that can make decent looking real-people action figures. Not BanDai's best trait.

^ I sincerely hope Bandai doesn't do any movie figures. Or anyone else for that matter. But yes, some reissues would be great :023:

Edit: for those of you that have the latest Bandai figs...are they posable?

Yeah, they're static poses. Still pretty cool, though. The details are really nice, and the paint apps are good. They're pretty good, BoA products or not. They're definitely worth picking up if you come across them. If you want to pick them up, check your local Toys*R*Us. That's the only place I've ever seen them, and they're the only place I know of that still sells anything DBZ. I just hope they branch out and do figures from more than just the Buu saga. Some figures of Mirai Trunks normal and SSJ, the Androids, Frieza, Goku, SSJ1 Goku, Ascended Goku, SSJ2 Gohan, and several other figures would be nice additions. Cell would be a good one, too. Heck, they should make a Saiyaman figure, for the heck of it. I really did like the second costume that Gohan wore to the World Tournament.

I agree that BoA should stay away from a movie line, but there's no reason that one of the other companies out there that are actually good at real-people figures shouldn't get it. Heck, I wouldn't mind seeing Neca or McFarlane get them. A company that could pull them off, and pull them off well.

I'm honestly still floored by my collection of "Ultimate figure" uhh.... figures.

They're still leagues better than just about anything else we've ever gotten on this side of EITHER ocean in terms of detail and articulation.

I just wish there had been a Mirai No Trunks. Maybe with a changeable head.

Thank you for contacting Jakks Pacific, Inc.

I would be more than happy to assist you. unfortunately we no longer are producing Dragon ball z figures.

I emailed BanDai, asking about any future plans to expand the Original Figures figure line, or to do other figure lines. I asked about any possible plans to re-release the old figure line that was brought over from Japan, as well. I'll post their response here when I get it.

Perhaps if they know there's interest in it, they'd consider doing it. More so if they don't know, anyway.

Yeah that would be great. They brought the show back to CN pretty recently, that combined with the DVDs and movie news should be enough to get us some new stuff.

I would like to see Funimation do seasons of Dragonball as well.

Well, I got a response from BanDai.

Chris:

Thank you for your support of Dragon Ball Z. Banda America has recently
started shipments of new Dragon Ball Z items in 2.5" and 4.5" sizes.
Check with your local retailers as we do not have specific locations as
to which items are currently in their stock.

Best wishes,

Bandai America

From the sounds of it, they've recently started shipping new figures in the same scale as the Ultimate Spark and Original Figures lines. While I could care less about the Spark line, the OF line is pretty sweet (the ones pictured above). I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for them.

my Kmart sells them. has a spot for the Ultimate spark figure 2 pack = 9.99
and the non articulated 2.5 figures for 6.99 the ultimate spark ones are sold out.

Interesting. I haven't been to Kmart in years. Of course, before picking up the BanDai figures, I hadn't bought any DBZ figures in years, either. I may have to check it out, see if mine has anything else DBZ (it's not a very popular store in my area, so they may have old stock, if I'm lucky)

Wonder why the Ultimate Spark figures are sold out. Not like they're any good. Ugly paint jobs, and some of the worst moulding I've ever seen on figures. Especially given the price tag.
