Since the seller doesn't really have a description of the item, I was wondering if this was just painted gold, or a sort of chrome gold? I tried messaging the seller, but I haven't gotten an answer as of yet - I know they signed on though, since they extended the time to 29 days.

From my experience with Gundam models and their metallic pieces, it's probably a "chrome plating" sort of thing, coating the plastic runners with a gold paint or whatever. It's something that's been pretty typical for HG or higher-level kits for quite some time now, and is something I've also seen on metallic/chrome pieces on Megazord toys too.
However, I should note that the finished models shown in the photographs on the packaging and in the instruction booklet are usually completely painted, and not always representative of (but often look a lot better than) what's in the box. But since the nature of the model is to be metallic, it's probably a given that the pieces inside are metallic as well.

It's the 1/144 HG Gundam SEED Destiny HG version for one. That mobile suit is impressive in both model form and in the anime. It's piloted first by Cagalli Yula Atha during the ZAFT invasion of ORB in CE 74. As she is the nation's chief representative she was forced to stay behind to clean up the mess caused by the Seiran family (another ruling family in ORB). She passed the suit onto newly found and newly recovered from anmesiac Mu La Flaga. I'm avid fan of Gundam SEED Destiny if you couldn't already tell. This site has galleries and reviews of a lot of the Gundam kits out there. I was cruising around the site and found the review for the Akatsuki Oowashi: http://www.dalong.net/review/seed/sh40/sh40_i.htm . Hope this helps you in your decision. I'd also get my hands on a couple of the Master Grade kits. They're incredible! Here's the site's reviews of the ones I have!
1. ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam (Special Version) - http://www.dalong.net/review/mg/me1/me1_i.htm
2. RX-93 Nu Gundam - http://www.dalong.net/review/mg/m34/m34_i.htm
3. GF13-017NJII God Gundam (Hyper Mode) - http://www.dalong.net/review/mg/mh1/mh1_i.htm
4. RX-178 Gundam Mark II 2.0 (AEUG) - http://www.dalong.net/review/mg/m86/m86_i.htm

It's chrome plated.
The only problem with that is that you can't fill in the seamlines without ruining the chrome, and re-doing the chrome after you've filled in the small cracks isn't really an option....

I'm with Freedom Gundam. I wouldn't suggest putting any paint on that sucker.

I just hope I scrape up enough money before anyone else buys it! And I won't be getting any more cash for 2 weeks unless people start buying something from my sales thread here. :(

Just be careful with eBay sellers selling Gundam kits I've seen a lot of people get ripped off by them. I normally don't resort to eBay for any of my kits. The only time I go to eBay is when the kit I want is sold out, discontinued, or hard to find especially if it's a limited edition one.

Well, this seller has near-perfect feedback.
